Activated Alumina (BHO & Ethanol Extraction)

A solid granular form of aluminum oxide, which is great for a general filtration and dewaxing aid.  PH 7

Description

Activated Alumina is a porous form of aluminum oxide that has a wide variety of uses, but is predominantly used as a winterization filtration aid due to its ability to remove moisture from extracted biomass. It is a ready-to-use, highly specialized, pH-neutral filtration aid for cannabis oil filtration. Being non-toxic, it presents a reliable solution for purifying cannabis extracts.

Activated Alumina plays a significant role in enhancing the purity and quality of cannabis oil. It can attract and hold various impurities, ranging from saponins and phospholipids to various plant surfactants that can affect the quality, flavor, and efficacy of the final cannabis product.

Activated Alumina possesses a high surface-area-to-weight ratio because of its porosity, making it extremely effective at removing contaminants, particularly in high-flow environments. When paired with other premium filter media, especially CRAC™, Activated Alumina acts as a safety net, catching any leftover contaminants that may have bypassed lower-scrub applications.

Despite its impressive purification abilities, Activated Alumina does not interfere with the cannabinoids and terpenes present in cannabis oil. This means that while effectively eliminating unwanted impurities, it simultaneously ensures high-level terpene and cannabinoid retention. This ability to retain these essential components preserves the aroma, flavor, and potential therapeutic effects of cannabis oil.

Media

Can media help remediate more than just color?

We provide various media designed for different jobs. Please check our Product Finder for color, pesticides, heavy metals, moisture, etc. Or contact us for a recommendation.

Can I mix MB media with other media?

You can mix any media, but always beware of mixing different-sized media; various pressures might not be optimal for specific media and can impact flow rates.

Can I reuse the media?

It’s hard to judge because everyone’s system, SOP, starting material, end goal, etc.. is different. It can be reused, but that will depend on what you are happy with. With each consecutive run, the media’s efficacy will decrease.

How do I store my media?

Make sure the package is sealed; moisture is the biggest enemy!
