Filtration Media COAs: Why Batch-Level Testing Matters for Clean Extracts

In cannabis extraction, every variable matters. From biomass quality to system parameters, small differences can have a major impact on the safety, potency, and purity of the final product. One variable that should never be overlooked is the filtration media you run your extracts through.

At Media Bros, we perform rigorous quality assurance (QA) testing on every batch of our media—not just because it looks good on paper, but because it directly impacts the reliability of your process and the integrity of your extract.

Why We Test

QA testing serves three primary functions in our workflow:

  • Product Integrity & Customer Confidence
    • By confirming that our media does not introduce contaminants into extracts, we provide extractors with assurance that every run will meet their internal quality standards.
  • Regulatory & SOP Compliance
    • Many companies—particularly in Canada—require a Certificate of Analysis (COA) before they can even integrate a new material into their Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). By providing batch-level COAs, we eliminate that barrier.
  • Risk Reduction & Peace of Mind
    • Independent testing provides added assurance for both us and our customers. By verifying each batch is clean before it reaches your lab, you can run with confidence knowing you’re starting with safe, consistent media.

What Makes Our QA Unique

Most suppliers test selectively or provide COAs only when customers ask. To our knowledge, Media Bros is the only supplier to publicly post COAs for every batch of filtration media.

  • Competitors like Carbon Chemistry and ChemTek may conduct testing, but these results are not consistently batch-specific or accessible.
  • By contrast, our results are transparent and standardized, available directly on our website, with unique COAs tied to each production lot.

This commitment to open reporting goes beyond minimum industry requirements and establishes a reproducible benchmark for safety and reliability.

How We Test: Step-by-Step

Our QA testing follows a controlled and repeatable workflow:

Preparation of Test Extract

    • A sample of cannabis extract is dissolved in a solvent and mixed with our media.
    • After soaking, the media is filtered out, and the resulting extract is sent for testing.

Third-Party Heavy Metals Analysis

The filtered extract is submitted to Columbia Laboratories, an ISO-accredited analytical lab.

  • Testing includes:
    • Arsenic (As)
    • Cadmium (Cd)
    • Lead (Pb)
    • Mercury (Hg)
    • Chromium (Cr)
  • This ensures that none of these toxic heavy metals are being leached into extracts during use.

In-House Moisture Testing

  • Before packaging, each batch of media undergoes internal moisture content analysis.
  • Our specification requires moisture below a strict threshold to prevent clumping, ensure consistent extraction results, and maintain consistent flow rates during extraction.

By combining external verification with internal controls, we cover both chemical safety (no contaminants added) and physical performance (consistent handling and flow).

Example COA

All results are logged, published, and tied to the specific batch number. For reference, here is one such COA: CRX21_060425 COA

This transparency enables direct traceability from our packaging to your lab records—a critical factor for compliance audits and internal QA documentation.

Raising QA Standards in Extraction

By maintaining batch-level QA testing and making COAs publicly accessible, Media Bros is setting a new standard in the filtration media category. Our approach ensures:

  • Traceability from lot to lab
  • Transparency across every customer interaction
  • Technical consistency in both safety and performance

For extractors who need confidence in their supply chain, our QA program provides documented, reproducible assurance that our media supports your goals of purity, potency, and compliance.

In short: Clean in. Clean out. Verified.
